One of my favourite Sigrid tunes is Don’t Kill My Vibe, released in early 2017. Here’s my remix.
The original had a some brilliant production with some cool vocal fx. I thought it would be fun to try a more 1980’s vibe with rock guitar in the verses and some big 80s pads in the chorus. Check out the full remix below. If you scroll down you’ll see a shorter video breakdown of some of the parts.
Don’t Kill My Vibe Remix – Mini Breakdown
Here’s a short breakdown video I did showing some of the parts that went into this Sigrid remix. Stay tuned if you enjoyed this, because I’m going to do a longer one at some point where I explain what’s going on in a bit more depth.
Quick Background
I started with the Acapella and once I had the tempo and key figured out, I imported the vocal into Ableton. I started out playing the chorus first and wrote some synth chords on Omnisphere and the Nord 2X.
Here are the chorus chords:
Bb/D – Ebsus2 – Bb/F – Ebsus2/F
For the verse, I came up with the first guitar part you hear. With this I was trying to imagine what kind of guitar part you might hear in a Rihanna live show, and this is what came out. It also has a bit of an Andy Summers Police influence using a lot of 5ths. Sorry Bach!
I played the same part much quieter and more softly for the intro and dug in a lot more in the 2nd verse to give it some more power.
The bass is just a patch called ‘Taurus Bass’ on the Moog Little Phatty which I tweaked to make it less bright. I also added Glide to it and threw in a few very short notes in some places whilst holding down the longer notes, to get some movement from slides.
For the breakdown I tweaked the bass so the chords end up like this.
Bb/D – Ebsus2/G – Bb/F – Fsu4
I hope you enjoyed my Sigrid Don’t Kill My Vibe remix with some 1980’s flavours. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.
